It was one of the spells available from the Balance. It sounds like the two come very close to interacting, but don't due to technicalities and semantics. Zone of truth was an enchantment spell that prevented lies from being spoken within the area of effect. But the Zone of Truth forces them to not lie in the first place, and if they succeed at the save the caster knows whether they succeeded, not whether they're lying or not. The Ring prevents someone from knowing if the wearer is lying. Such a creature can be evasive in its answers as long as it remains within the boundaries of the truth. An affected creature is aware of the spell and can thus avoid answering questions to which it would normally respond with a lie. You know whether each creature succeeds or fails on its saving throw. Once the spell is cast, the scroll fades and crumbles to dust. You create a magic zone which guards against deception in a 15-foot-radius arena based on the point of your. On a failed save, a creature can’t speak a deliberate lie while in the radius. Scroll of Zone of Truth (uncommon) Bards, Clerics, and Paladins can activate the spell magically written into this scroll without the need for material components, and without expending a spell slot to do so. The DC for this zone of truth is equal to 8 + your Wisdom modifier. Creatures stepping within your zone of truth have disadvantage on their saving throws against the spell effect. You cannot lie up to 24 hours after removing the ring of truth. Until the spell ends, a creature that enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must make a Charisma saving throw. You can cast zone of truth at will, but you are constrained to never knowingly lie. Each potentially affected creature must attempt a Will save when the spell is cast or when the creature first enters the area. Creatures within or entering the area have difficulty lying. Creatures can telepathically communicate with you only if you allow it. You designate an area in which creatures are compelled to speak only truth.
